My Thoughts about the Flood Disaster

The flooding trauma has affected Thailand as a whole, and many schools, including ours, had to be closed. Many places in Thailand were affected by this flood, but personally, it didn’t affect me. This is partly because I live in central Bangkok. I live with my mom in Thailand, while my dad and sister live in Korea. My mom and I didn’t have to leave our home because we it didn’t flood in our area, but some of my friends had to move to other areas such as Pattaya to relocate. Very fortunately and thankfully, my family is fine. I feel bad for all the other people who were affected though; it must have been hard. I think right now, the flooding trauma has decreased a little bit, and so my area will not be flooded. I will be able to return to school on Monday, and look forward to seeing my friends and teachers. When I realized that the school had many continued extensions because of the flood, I knew I would have to check my email and edline account daily to keep track of homework, as well as important news. I managed to do this because my internet wasn’t cut off, and still am very thankful for this fact. Homework was updated every single day, and I tried my best to keep up with it so that the work wouldn’t pile up in a big mess.
There will be a lot of short and long term effects from this flood for Thailand. For example, it has been very hard to get clean drinking water, inexpensive foods; the prices to these items have increased. There were also a limited number of supplies. In addition, people will have to deal with their homes and neighborhoods. The water is dirty and contaminated, so it will be hard for people to recover from the damage. They will have to have a massive clean up as soon as the waters have gone. The long term effects that will occur from the flood will be very troublesome for the entire country. It will take a lot of time and money to recover from such a loss. The flood will have a long term effect on the agricultural industry. The crops have been destroyed, and must be replanted. The entire nation will have shortages of food due to the loss of crops. Prices for food will increase, and many staples that are grown in Thailand might have to be imported. Some of the water systems have been infiltrated and so water might not be as clean as before. The tourism industry will also be affected because nobody would want to come to Thailand and most people probably cancelled their vacation trips. Perhaps in the future, the tourism industry will bounce back to the way it was before the flood disaster.
In order to help out those in need, we could do several things. We could participate in community services. In certain areas, people have helped build sand bag walls in order to keep the water out. We could also help distribute water and food to those that need it. We could donate money to help buy emergency supplies for flood victims. Some schools have already been doing this, which is great because we can all help out. The money could also go towards rebuilding homes and buildings. Thailand could plan for a better water drainage system for the future in case this flooding tragedy happens again. My moral compass says that we should try to find a better solution to taking out the water. Instead of moving the water to the outskirts of Bangkok, we should build better drainage passages to rivers or directly to the ocean. My moral compass also says that I should be very glad that I haven’t been affected in any way, and am able to stay safe at home. We can turn our thoughts into action by encouraging political leaders to draw plans to solve the problem, and to allocate money for that purpose.

My Music Video - What Makes Me, Me?

By watching this movie, I hope that people who don’t know me so well, and even my closest friends get to know a bit more about me. The six categories that I chose to be represented in my video were family, school, friends, nationality, and hobbies. I had the most pictures for friends. I tried to represent that I am very social and like to talk with my peers as well as people who are older or younger than me. I am very attached to my family and friends. I am a happy, social, and cheerful person. I like to be with a group of people instead of being alone. This is why in most of the photos, I am with somebody else. Instead of keeping my worries to myself, I like to confide in the people I trust. I also like to listen to other people’s troubles and help them out too. Also, I wanted to explain some things about the picture from my nationality category. I had a picture of the Korean letters and vowels. The Korean language is a part of my everyday life. It is essential. I also had a picture of two people bowing together. Respect is a very important aspect in Korean culture, especially to the people who are older than you, so I guess I’m a polite person. I also LOVE music. Music is one of my biggest passions. I like to play instruments and listen to music too. I can’t imagine movies, TV shows, and basically the whole world WITHOUT any sound or music.
I had some technical problems while making my video. First, I wasn't used to making movies on Windows Movie Maker. But as I made my video, I got the hang of things and figured everything out. Gathering all my pictures with the license was pretty simple, but VERY time - consuming. I tried my best to find pictures that would really represent who I am. However, I was able to download Freecorder 5 and use it to get my music pretty easily. Once I filled out my planning document and got all my precentages, I put up all my pictures in the order that I wanted, then put the transitions, and finally put the music. I realized that the project would take me more than just a few hourse to finish. I felt so happy and proud of myself when I was finally done. It took me several days to make it just the way I wanted it to be. I was OVERWHELMED with joy because I was finally done! I showed my video to my mom and she was pleased too. :) The file of my video was too big, so I had to reduce it to post this on blogger, which is why it might seem quite blurry. Above all, I really enjoyed doing this project because it was a new challenge for me and I learned many new things, including things about myself.

Birmingham Grid of Learning - What does it mean to me?

During our first week of school, we took a test (Birmingham Grid of Learning Multiple Intelligence test) to see our strengths and weaknesses as learners. When I took the test, I wasn't surprised about the results. I like math, and am good at working with numbers. I also like to intepret things with words, but I am a very visual learner too. I like looking at images and pictures, and if there is color involved, even better! Working with other people helps me to work things out. However, I also like to work independently. Both of my interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences are pretty high. From this test, I found that I am not very naturalistically smart. I will try to care about the environment and the world around me more, and show appreciation for nature. I like moving around and doing activities; I can't sit still for too long. However, I can study better with words and images, so I understood my result for being body smart. I love music, and its a part of my daily life, but it is lower than some of my other intelligences. Overall, I agree with my results, and found my strengths that I never knew I had.
